Cops issue update as family 'thankful 11-year-old boy is alive' after dog attack

Police have issued an update as detectives continue to investigate a horrific dog attack which left a young boy with serious injuries. The 11-year-old, named Ali, was rushed to hospital after being mauled while out playing with his friends at Swanley Avenue in Monsall, north Manchester, on Sunday (June 4).

The dog, whose breed is yet to be confirmed, was seized by officers following the attack. Ali, who has autism, suffered a ravaged cheek and had scratches across his arms and hands.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control following the incident. In an update issued this morning (June 7), Greater Manchester Police says the woman has been bailed.

The boy's sister, 18, told the Manchester Evening News yesterday that the family were 'thankful he is still alive' following the attack. She said: "His face was really bad. He was bleeding everywhere.

"The police closed off the road. There was so much happening my mum didn't know what to do.

"His clothes were all ripped up and he had scratches all over his arms. It was just horrible and absolutely traumatising. They've said he could be in hospital for another week or so.

"At the moment he seems okay, but is still very shaken. It was so close to his eye, we are so thankful he is still alive."
