If you've noticed that some of your favorite grocery items have getting smaller in size without the price changing, then you're noticing the phenomenon of shrinkflation.
And you're not alone — because Cookie Monster has noticed the exact same thing with his cookies.
On Monday, Mar. 4, the iconic Sesame Street character took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustrations about the lessening number of cookies he sees in each purchase.
"Me hate shrinkflation!" Cookie Monster tweeted to his over 620,000 followers. "Me cookies are getting smaller."

However, Cookie Monster's complaint is very real. A study published by Pennsylvania senator Bob Casey Jr. in December 2023 showed that grocery items across the board — from chips like Doritos, to dishwashing liquid like Dawn, and toilet paper like Charmin — are succumbing to shrinkflation.

Cookie Monster followed his viral tweet — which has nearly four million views — by saying that he is just "going to have to eat double da cookies."
While Cookie Monster's decades of Sesame Street fame have likely made the option of simply buying more cookies very easy, that's just not the option for every American.
As debt numbers continue to rise, Americans are struggling to pay for their day-to-day expenses, despite positive indicators, like low unemployment, throughout the macro economy
So Cookie Monster's tweet ended up becoming a bit of a hot button political issue.
The White House responded to the character's tweet, taking one of his iconic lines about cookies in the process.

Biden has been attacking shrinkflation over the past few weeks, so shouldn't be too much of a surprise that his PR representatives hopped on the tweet from the beloved children's character.
Ohio Democrat senator Sherrod Brown also gave his thoughts on the Cookie Monster tweet.
