Law enforcement agencies in Mississippi are currently on high alert as they search for a prison escapee described as 'desperate' and 'very very dangerous.' Drew Johnson, a convicted murderer sentenced to life in prison in 2022, managed to escape from Mississippi's newest state prison in Greene County on Christmas Eve, nearly three years after his sentencing.
The 33-year-old fugitive has a violent criminal history that spans multiple states. In 2016, Johnson fatally stabbed an acquaintance more than two dozen times in Memphis, Tennessee, before abandoning the victim's body in a field. His violent behavior continued behind bars, with incidents including attacking another prisoner with a brick and setting fires while in jail.
Johnson, who received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for murder, also faces a pending murder case in Rankin County, Mississippi. Authorities have warned the public to be vigilant and cautious, especially during the holiday season when people may be more susceptible to letting their guard down.
Described as a large White male standing 6 feet tall with blond hair, blue eyes, and distinctive neck, head, and face tattoos, Johnson was last seen in Leakesville, Mississippi. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact them immediately.
