Perth and Kinross Council has appointed a contractor to design and build a new low carbon transport hub at Broxden Park and Ride at the southwestern edge of the city.
A contract award notice published on the Public Contracts Scotland website shows the local authority has agreed to pay Glasgow-based Emtec Energy almost £615,000 to progress the project on its behalf.
The notice said: “The intention of the hub is to broaden the range of refuelling activities and transport modes available, providing sustainable travel options to local residents, businesses and visitors to the region, thereby providing the opportunity to improve workforce mobility, social inclusion and environmental impact.”
Five other business submitted tenders for the contract but were unsuccessful according to the award notice.
Last year the council agreed to pay Dundee-based business Urban Foresight almost £8000 to provide “consultancy support” for the same project through a separate contract.
Asked for further comment on the project last year a PKC spokesperson told the PA: “The Broxden Low Carbon Transport Hub Project is the first phase of a wider network of low carbon transport and active travel hubs being developed by PKC.
“The project will be funded through the European Regional Development Fund and the Tay Cities Deal. It will create an innovative, low carbon transport facility at a strategic node on the Scottish motorway network.
“The project includes the expansion of existing electric vehicle (EV) charge points to provide a range of charging speeds to accommodate a variety of EV usage patterns. “Solar carport canopies will be integrated with a battery energy storage system to hold on-site generated renewable energy.
“To encourage active travel, Broxden will also host new bike storage facilities, e-bike charging and a public transport information display.
“Overall, the project will contribute to the provision of an integrated, effective, efficient low carbon transport system for Perth and the wider region.”
