The Minnesota Vikings announced late on Tuesday night that they agreed to terms with Arizona Cardinals cornerback Byron Murphy on a two year, $22 million contract. What we have come to realize with the Vikings front office is that contracts are never quite as they appear.
That is the same with Murphy Jr.’s contract. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston, the contract’s max value is $22 million, but it’s less than that.
- Two years, $17.5 million
- $12.6 millino guaranteed
- $7 million signing bonus
- $1.1 million guaranteed salary in 2023
- $8.3 million salary in 2024 ($4.5 million guaranteed for injury at signing, becomes guaranteed on third day of 2024 league year)
- $29,412 per game active roster bonus ($500k per year)
- $50k annual workout bonus
- $2 million playing time, Pro Bowl and All-Pro incentives
As I had initially thought, Murphy’s contract was filled with incentives to get him up to that $22 million mark. Overall, a really good contract for both sides.
