Plans to redevelop parts of a historic Grade-I listed castle in Wales are set to be discussed later this month. Neath Port Talbot Council has launched a consultation process for ideas on what to do with parts of the 19th-century Margam Castle that are currently empty.
The move comes after the authority was successful in securing a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2021, which was used to fund an options appraisal and feasibility study ahead of future plans to repair and conserve the site. Parts of the castle including the entrance hallway and staircase hall are open to the public but other areas have lay empty for many years.
The grant allowed the council to work with specialists to develop a plan for the castle and its associated buildings, with an initial survey in December of 2022 asking the public to give ideas on what they wanted to see inside Margam Castle receiving more than 500 responses.
