Construction work has started on a new 23-storey residential development in Birmingham's Gun Quarter.
Select Property is leading the scheme on canalside land under its Affinity Living brand which will see 266 one- and two-bedroom apartments to rent available from autumn 2025.
Called Lancaster Wharf and situated at the corner of Princip Street and New Town Row, it will also have a gym, rooftop garden and co-working space across a group of blocks.
The commencement of work follows months of demolition and stabilisation including extensive repair to the canal wall and reinforcements to protect neighbouring sites.
The site was previously used by West Midlands Police Authority as a storage depot.
Lancaster Wharf will become the fifth property in the Affinity Living portfolio, joining four others in Manchester. Select Property is a Cheshire-based developer, operator and investor.
It is a sister company to Vita Group which recently acquired the Axis Square next to Birmingham's Mailbox where it plans to build a residential-led, mixed-use complex.
Select Property chief executive Adam Price said: "Breaking ground on Affinity Living Lancaster Wharf puts us one step closer to truly redefining the city's rental market by providing a community-oriented residence designed to bring together ambitious young professionals to thrive under one roof.
"We're bringing the winning formula of a resident-centric experience that we've created operating our four current Affinity Living residences to Birmingham.
"We're bringing our new residence forward at such an exciting time for Birmingham which is riding the legacy of an amazing Commonwealth Games last year while preparing for new opportunities from HS2."
Lancaster Wharf has been designed by Corstorphine + Wright with Torsion appointed as main contractor.
