MUMBAI: Rekha Ajit Wadekar, the widow of former India captain Ajit Wadekar, on Tuesday requested Mumbai Cricket Association president Vijay Patil to name the association's upcoming cricket museum after her husband, who passed away in 2018. The MCA had last Friday in an emergent meeting of the Apex Council approved the decision to name the museum after Sharad Pawar, a former president of the MCA, BCCI and ICC. It was Patil who had proposed Pawar's name for the museum.
In a letter (TOI has a copy) to the MCA chief, with the subject mentioned as 'Proposing Cricket Museum in Late Padmashri Mr Ajit Wadekar's name,' Rekha Wadekar has written: "Recently, we read in the newspaper that the new cricket museum will be titled after Shri Sharadrao Pawarji and the lounge will be named after my husband the Late Padmashri Ajit Wadekar. I would like you to consider my husband's name for the upcoming cricket museum. As you are well aware that he was the captain of the victorious Indian Test team which won against England in England and against West Indies in West Indies in 1971.
