- Conservative MP Patrick Spencer was cleared by a jury of two counts of sexual assault involving two women at London 's Groucho Club.
- The incidents, which occurred in August 2023 before his election as MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich, involved Mr Spencer allegedly putting his arms around two women and 'cupping' their breasts.
- During the trial at Southwark Crown Court, Mr Spencer insisted he did not touch one woman's breasts and that contact with the other was accidental and unintentional, stating his post-incident gesture was due to being 'mortified' by rejection.
- Mr Spencer, son of Conservative Party donor Lord Michael Spencer , broke down in tears as the not-guilty verdicts were delivered; he had lost the Tory whip and sat as an independent during the trial.
- The Metropolitan Police apologised for initial failings in the investigation, which stalled after an officer failed to take statements, but a review in early 2025 led to a new team bringing charges within three months.
