A VACANCY for a conservation ranger is up for grabs to “help shape the natural environment” around Scotland’s first Center Parcs holiday village in the Borders.
Earmarked to open in summer 2029, the holiday village will be located just 3 miles north of Hawick and feature up to 700 holiday lodges and apartments. The £450m project is expected to create around 1200 jobs and generate £87m a year for the Scottish economy.
The Scottish Government says the resort will offer families across the country a high-quality staycation option closer to home, reducing the need to travel abroad for short breaks.
Ahead of the opening, Center Parcs is looking for a senior conservation ranger to join this summer to “help shape the natural environment from the very beginning”.
A Center Parcs spokesperson stated: “This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in both the construction and long-term stewardship of a brand-new woodland village – supporting biodiversity, wildlife protection and the creation of a thriving forest landscape.
“If you’re passionate about conservation and want to be part of an exciting, once-in-a-generation project, we’d love to hear from you.”
In March, work began on the project with John Swinney joining chief executive Colin McKinlay for a ceremonial tree planting ceremony at the site. Center Parcs said the area was the "ideal location" with many guests from Scotland already using its English sites.
Speaking when he visited the site, the First Minister said: “Economic growth must reach the people and places that need it most.
“Investing in the south of Scotland through this project is a direct expression of our belief that every part of Scotland deserves to benefit from a growing economy.
“Investing here is a deliberate statement that we are serious about reducing regional inequality and creating genuine opportunity for young people – 30% of these 1200 jobs are targeted at 16 to 24-year-olds.
“It is a privilege to be here with local school children to start planting new trees for the site, and I look forward to seeing the development of the project before the resort opens in 2029.”
