Conor McMenamin starts for Glentoran in 'Lazarus-like' comeback

Glentoran's PA system belted out Mark Morrison's 'Return of the Mack' after Conor McMenamin was named in the starting line-up to face Cliftonville on Sunday.

McMenamin was cleared to play after recovering from a serious leg injury nine days previous against Coleraine.

The Glens initially believed McMenamin had suffered a fractured fibula in the draw against the Bannsiders, but follow-up scans revealed there was no break.

The 27-year-old returned to training this week before being deemed fit enough to face former club Cliftonville in Sunday's lunchtime kick-off.

Rival fans were quick to poke fun at McMenamin's remarkable recovery, with many dubbing the comeback as 'Lazarus-like'.

It is a massive boost for the Glens who went into Sunday's game seeking three points to keep pace with Premiership leaders Larne.

The East Belfast men hadn't won in their previous three outings, losing to Glenavon and drawing with Coleraine in the league, and then losing to Linfield in the semi-finals of the County Antrim Shield.

Cliftonville are also mounting a title challenge of their own, with Paddy McLaughlin's Reds sitting in fourth and eight points off the summit before kick-off.
