Conor McMenamin apologises for historic social media video

Northern Ireland winger Conor McMenamin has voiced his regret after apologising for the historic social media video that surfaced before Saturday's game against Kosovo.

McMenamin was forced to withdraw from Ian Baraclough's side less than two hours before kick-off but has since been recalled to the senior squad.

The Glentoran star - who has three international caps to date - has been cleared to play against Greece on Tuesday as he will face no further action regarding the video in which he appeared to sing a pro-iRA slogan.

Given that the footage is believed to be almost a decade old and the former Cliftonville and Linfield player was punished by his club at the time, the IFA disciplinary confirmed that the matter had been considered by its Disciplinary Committee which decided that no further action will be taken.

McMenamin said: “The video in question was made a long time ago. I am sorry and I regret it. We all make mistakes.

“My international career has just started and I’m really enjoying playing for Northern Ireland.

“I am now fully focused on our final Nations League group game against Greece and hoping I can make a contribution and represent the team in a positive way.”

Northern Ireland senior men’s manager Ian Baraclough said: “It was right that we withdrew Conor from the squad when the video was lodged as a formal complaint late on Saturday afternoon.

“Now the disciplinary process has concluded, and it has been confirmed there is no further action, we can concentrate solely on the game against Greece which is what we’re all here to do.”
