Conor McGregor vowed to "get back" his knockout loss to Dustin Poirier after rewatching the fight on his phone.
McGregor, 34, was knocked out for the first time in his fighting career when he met Poirier in a rematch at UFC 257 in January 2021. 'Notorious' had success early on but the leg kicks of Poirier started to add up which eventually led to 'The Diamond' stopping his rival in the second round. The fight took place seven years on from McGregor and Poirier's first meeting at UFC 178, which McGregor won by first round knockout.
Footage from McGregor's new Netflix documentary 'McGregor Forever' shows him rewatching the second Poirier fight on a yacht. A deflated McGregor puts his phone down after watching himself be knocked out by Poirier, but the Irishman seemed to be in good hopes as he said: "We'll get it back."
McGregor could also be seen with his head in his hands whilst in his locker room, just moments after being stopped by Poirier. "That's that, that's it. That was just abysmal," McGregor said whilst assessing his performance. "I was shot there, my leg was just dead there. My leg was dead f***. There wasn't a rattle at all.
The Irishman is then helped onto crutches by his team and he could be heard saying of his injured leg: "This is magnified, what the f*** is this? This is the sport." McGregor and Poirier fought for the third time later that year at UFC 264 in July, but things didn't go as planned for McGregor as he broke his leg at the end of the first round.

McGregor is set to make his UFC return in either November or December as he faces Michael Chandler after a two-year absence from the cage. 'Notorious' admitted that he wasn't entirely happy with his four-part Netflix documentary as he wasn't given the opportunity to help create it.
"I was watching that documentary the other night," McGregor told Matchroom Boxing. "I didn't have creative control of it, I'm the creator so I wasn't necessarily happy. I love the story, I wouldn't change it but I would add my magic. The fact that my adding of the magic was kind of torn away when it was not supposed to be? I felt a bit led into it to be honest. I'm happy with how it went, it is what it is and onwards we go."
