Today marks two years since Conor McGregor's last UFC win over Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone.
The Dubliner had not fought since his loss to arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018 but impressed as he dispatched of his opponent in just 40 seconds.
And the two-weight UFC champion had predicted a bright 2020 and made a number of predictions for the year ahead but not many panned out in his favour.
The Crumlin man ended up not fighting for the remainder of the year and only returned to action in 2021.
After the fight, McGregor was bullish about his prospects for 2020, saying he'd meet up with UFC boss Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta after the fight.
He said in his post fight press conference that he would be ready to fight if one of Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson dropped out of their lightweight title fight.
He said: "The lightweight title will be there, you see the difference in the physique and the preparation. That will come back around, that shot.
"If this fight does go ahead I'm not going to sit around and wait for a through holidays and injuries and all the things that go with it.
"I'm looking at dates now and see where we're at. Lorenzo gets back in from Panama on Tuesday so I will toast the fine Irish whiskey with Lorenzo and I always look to do that.
"I'll go for dinner and a toast with Lorenzo and Dana and I'm sure we'll chat about it then and see what's what.
"The back to training, before a fight you taper off for the final two weeks so if you get a quick win and then go off, all of a sudden it can be four weeks without a full training and then you've slipped behind again and I'm going to make sure not to do that."
McGregor also said that he had hoped for a rematch with old foe Nurmagomedov but the fight never panned out
Speaking at the same press conference, he said: "I'll be excited to get that one back. If something happens, I'll be here."
McGregor also said that he wanted to fight back in Dublin, but a bout in the Irish capital has not happened since and looks unlikely to take place in the near future.
"If there's a stadium show happening in Europe it's happening in Ireland, it's not happening in the UK.
"If there is a stadium show earmarked for me in Europe, bring that to Ireland. I'm asking that since the beginning.
"I'd be very excited if we could do that, I'd love to compete in Ireland. I'd love to compete in my home town. How amazing would that be?"
The Dubliner was also asked about a possible bout with Jorge Masvidal, and he said when asked if the fight interests him: "Of course, I'd like to scoop up that belt, it's not a great belt but I'll still take it and add it to the list."
McGregor's grand plans never came to fruition with 2020 halted due to the coronavirus pandemic which saw the fighter sidelined for the year.
The Dublin consequently returned in 2021 where he suffered consecutive defeats to Dustin Poirier. He is expected to return to the octagon later this year when he recovers from a broken leg.
