Conor McGregor's management company has successfully sued Manny Pacquiao for £4 million following an extensive legal battle.
The iconic pair were supposed to face off in a fight as McGregor had previously squared off against Pacquiao's greatest foe Floyd Mayweather.
The highly anticipated fight, though, failed to take place because of a rift between Pacquiao's team and Paradigm, who are McGregor's representatives.
Paradigm said Pacquiao had banked $3.3million (£2.63m) from them before walking away to negotiate his own fights.
The company accused the Filipino of failing to disclose a pre-existing management deal when he signed an exclusive two-fight deal with the company in February 2020. Paradigm were reportedly seeking around $20m (£16m).
A jury in California returned a 9-3 verdict in Paradigm’s favour, awarding them $1.8m in addition to the $3.3m they had initially paid to Pacquiao, totalling $5.1m (just over £4m). That could increase to a whopping $8m (£6.4m) when interest and lawyers’ fees are factored in.
Paradigm founder and CEO, Audie Attar, said in a statement to MMAmania.com: “We are elated to learn of the jury’s ruling in Paradigm’s favour in our suit against Manny Pacquiao.
“The jury plainly found that Pacquiao testified falsely in denying Paradigm’s claims against him, and his excuses for his conduct prove our case that a breach of contract was committed.
“We are appreciative of the court’s time and the jury’s careful attention to the facts of this case. Hopefully, Manny will have learned a lesson from the verdict and will henceforth act with the honesty and integrity that was so lacking in his treatment of Paradigm.”
Attar had previously threatened to take legal action against any promoter who worked with Pacquiao until the dispute was resolved.
He said in a statement: “If any promoters, managers, fighters or broadcasting networks are considering entering into an agreement with Manny prior to the trial, they are now on notice that Paradigm will immediately commence an action against them for tortious interference with contract and seek both an injunction and damages."
