Conor McGregor has joked his co-actor Jake Gyllenhaal expected to be working with Ewan McGregor - only to be met by the UFC superstar.
McGregor hasn't fought in the UFC since last July after breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier and is currently closing in on a return to full training ahead of a comeback in 2023. He has also landed a role in the remake of Hollywood classic Road House alongside high-profile actor Gyllenhaal.
The Irishman has been filming in the Dominican Republic and has been putting his comeback on hold until it is completed. And in his latest social media post, McGregor posted an image of Gyllenhaal with the mocked-up caption: "I thought my co-star was Ewan McGregor", while in another picture, an Amazon Prime official says, "Oh no, I said, 'You 'N' McGregor".
The 34-year-old former UFC champion has previously expressed his delight at landing the role and has even stated he "cannot believe" he is being paid to feature in the film. His manager Tim Simpson has revealed his UFC career will only briefly be affected while his acting role is completed before he is able to make a full return in 2023.
"A fun little venture then switching back to climbing the mountain again. It fits in perfectly. He’s still on track for a big return next year, but this fits in perfectly in the meantime," Simpson told MMA Junkie. "Acting wasn't something I think that Conor at the very front of his mind, right now he's still a world class athlete and his focus is being the best fighter in the world.

"But as the injury continues to heal and he continues to prepare for a comeback, the timing worked well. It's a great opportunity to do a big Hollywood blockbuster in meantime and he's going to kill it. The leg is still healing, I think there's a little bit more to go on that but he's been training like a madman. Twice a day, every day. He's been training super hard, he's in amazing shape it's just the final adjustments to get that leg where it's supposed to be."
