Conor McGregor has questioned why Jon Jones was not awarded two belts after his UFC 285 win over Cyril Gane.
UFC superstar Jones made his long-awaited return to the octagon last weekend, where he made a switch to the heavyweight division to face leading contender Gane. And 'Bones' won in sensational fashion, ending the contest in the first round by choking out his rival to become the latest two-weight champion.
Jones reigned as light-heavyweight champion all the way up to his win over Dominick Reyes in 2020 before vacating his crown to pursue a shot at glory in the top division. And McGregor congratulated Jones while pointing out what he felt was the UFC's mistake.
He tweeted: "That was incredible by Jon last night! Even better to see it live! The man should’ve had two belts presented to him. And both sparkling. He did it. F****ing brilliant. @JonnyBones! Congratulations!" McGregor himself reigned as a double-champion conquering both the featherweight and lightweight divisions without vacating the belt.
After winning both titles with a KO win over Eddie Alvarez, McGregor was also left with just one belt to be presented with which caused a stir in his post-fight interview. He furiously demanded that it was brought on stage, shouting: "Where the f*** is my second belt!? Where's the second at?! Cheap motherf******.
"$4.2 billion this company was sold for, where's that second belt? Go backstage and grab that f****** belt from somewhere. I only won it and you're trying to take it from me already. What the f***! What's next for me? I'm gonna get that second belt. Where the f*** is it?"

It turned out McGregor was being brought the belt as officials furiously scrambled to hand it to McGregor in the octagon, and he paraded them around for some iconic images. However Jones did not make anything of the absence of a belt, and instead saluted his performance before leaving the cage.
Jones was delighted and stated that he believed in himself at all times, despite critics questioning whether he would make a comeback at all. He said after the fight: "I knew if I got him down to the ground that the fight would be in my area as I’ve been wrestling since I was 12 years old and I feel stronger and most comfortable on the ground.
"I actually felt a little bit goofy on the feet as it's been while, but once I got my hands on him then I could take control. I am so excited, I’ve been working for this for such a long time, A lot of people thought I would never come back, but I’ve been faithful to my goal. I’ve been faithful to the mission."
