Conor McGregor insists losing doesn't matter after suffering fifth TUF defeat

Conor McGregor has insisted the journey is more important than the results for his fighters competing on The Ultimate Fighter.

The Irishman's disastrous losing streak continued in the latest episode of the UFC's reality TV show as his bantamweight prospect Carlos Vera lost a decision against Brad Katona. It marks McGregor's fifth consecutive defeat of the series with Chandler just three wins away from completing a clean sweep over his rival.

McGregor gave his team an inspirational speech after pushing them through a training session on the rowing machine as he said: "It ain’t about the wins and the losses, it’s about the journey and the experiences. They are all lessons: win, lose or draw, you learn and become better. That was it, we just took those lessons and worked to get better."

Vera did impress McGregor in his fight against Katona, who is a teammate of McGregor's at SBG in Dublin. The bantamweight prospect showed off some good spinning attacks but failed to come up with an answer for the relentless wrestling of Katona. McGregor was furious that a sudden death round wasn't ordered by the judges but Chandler disagreed with UFC rival's take on the fight.

"Give him three rounds lads, we want three rounders here judges yeah? None of this two round s***," McGregor said before targeting Chandler. "It's five rounds for a world title. You ever had one of those world titles Michael? You ever had a five-rounder?" Chandler smiled at McGregor's trash talk and replied: "Yep, lots of them. We won both rounds, we don't need a third round when we won both."

McGregor didn't have the same poor run of form when he coached season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter against Urijah Faber in 2015, as both of his Team Europe fighters progressed to the lightweight finals. Faber's fighter Ryan Hall eventually won the season after replacing Team McGregor's Saul Rogers in the final because of a visa issue.

In next week's episode, McGregor will hope to pick up his first win of the season when his unbeaten teammate Lee Hammond faces Team Chandler's Kurt Holobaugh. Hammond, who is considered one of Ireland's brightest prospects, is unbeaten in five professional fights with four of his wins coming by stoppage in the first round.
