Conor McGregor hits out at “flop” Jake Paul after YouTuber’s fight call-out

Conor McGregor has taken aim at the pay-per-view buys for Jake Paul 's fights whilst labelling the YouTube star a nobody after his fight call-out.

Paul has been pushing for a fight with McGregor ever since he ditched his internet fame to pursue boxing on a full-time basis. 'The Problem Child', who is scheduled to fight Hasim Rahman Jr next month, thinks he is edging closer to a fight with McGregor.

"I think for me fighting a couple more times, continuing to knock some people out... He has to get active again, who knows when that's going to happen. Those things need to happen again, so I think those two things need to happen then at some point it's got to happen, why not. He's a businessman, I'm a businessman. That's $75 to $100million for both of us," Paul said on The MMA Hour about a potential fight with McGregor.

McGregor then responded to Paul's comments by replying: "You’ve [had] two fights and done 70k buys. You are a flop, kid. A nobody," Reports stated that Paul's last fight against Tyron Woodley only did 65,000 pay-per-view buys, but the 25-year-old later responded to the figure as " bull**** " whilst claiming his first fight against Woodley sold over 500,000 buys.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor is one of the biggest pay-per-view stars in combat sports, with his boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather selling 4.6 million buys. The Irishman has also been involved in the top-five highest-selling UFC pay-per-views of all time.

Paul is undefeated in five professional fights and looks to pick up his sixth win against short-notice replacement Rahman after his rival Tommy Fury pulled out of a fight for the second time. The YouTube star admitted the fight is in jeopardy despite being less than a month away after Rahman has demanded he is paid more for the clash.

McGregor is not the only big name that Paul has called out, with the 25-year-old also targeting a future clash against undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Paul admitted that a fight with McGregor would excite him more, adding: "I think Conor and I would be way more exciting and way more electric, we're both more of a showman than Canelo.

"The press conferences and the s*** talk would be legendary, it would be so entertaining and riveting for the fans. People would be on the edge of their seats salivating to see us fight because of the promotion going into it that we would both bring."
