"A real honor to meet and know @royjonesjrofficial personally," said McGregor on Instagram.
"If multiple division champion makes you a bad man and the heavy weight division makes you the baddest, this guy went from light middle all the way to heavy weight winning world titles.
"Along with an absolutely insane highlight reel that I still play to this day."
McGregor admitted he took inspiration from Jones' methods when the Irishman boxed Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
Overall, to conclude his praise, the UFC fighter described the 54-year-old as "a true lover of combat!"
"I pulled that back hand uppercut I hit Floyd (Mayweather) with out of the Roy Jones playbook," McGregor added.
"One of the greatest of all time for me is Roy Jones Junior, 100%! Modern era greatest! And Still competing as well, a true lover of combat! Great person! Top man Roy!
"They’ll never forget if it has anything to do with me!"
