Conor McGregor claims Dustin Poirier "didn't know where he was" after fight

Dustin Poirier had the last laugh against Conor McGregor in their trilogy clash, but the Irishman has claimed his rival "didn't know where he was" after the fight.

Former two-weight UFC champion McGregor broke his tibia at the end of the first round against Poirier last July and has been sidelined ever since. It marked McGregor's second defeat to Poirier having been knocked out by the American earlier that year, with their rematch taking place seven years after the rivals first met in the UFC.

Official fight stats show that Poirier landed more significant strikes than McGregor in their trilogy fight, although McGregor has claimed that the fight was going his way before he broke his leg. "He was in space the last fight, he didn't know where he was when giving his speeches and interviews. That fight was going only one way. I had the quad chewed up," McGregor wrote.

"The stand up was even, he landed not one shot. Look at the velocity of the shots coming at him. He was in space post-fight. Smelly brown writing a novel post fight so they please god won't have to go through it again, but they will have to. Think goat fed to god."

"I took not one calf kick in the trilogy. Trust me they won't be getting given for free again. Little w****r kicks they are. If you can't kick, kick the calf." Fans were quick to offer an opposing view on the fight, with some stating that Poirier was winning before it was stopped. McGregor then replied to one user: "That's dribble and you know it. Time will show. I've beat everyone I've fought multiple times in the UFC. I'm the boss of the business."

McGregor is expected to make his fighting return this year but he will need to complete six months of drug testing before he can step foot in the octagon. 'Notorious' thinks his UFC rivals won't be looking forward to fighting him when he makes his comeback, stating: "Let them lie to themselves. They'll be forced into another one, they can't run. Well, I suppose they could but they won't. They are goers in fairness so respect that but no mistake, they're not looking forward to it."

The Irishman's absence has affected his position in the UFC rankings as for the first time in eight years, McGregor dropped out of the top 15. 'Notorious' is expected to make his return at welterweight having bulked up to 190lb during his time away from the cage.
