Conor McGregor claims he was simply driving to his gym during the incident which saw him arrested for alleged dangerous driving on Tuesday.
The Dubliner insists he was on his way to train for his UFC return when he was pulled over on Dublin's M50 by members of An Garda Siochana.
He was arrested and taken to Lucan Garda station following the incident, reports The Mirror.
McGregor was charged before being released on bail, while his Bentley supercar that he was driving at the time, which is said to be worth around €170,000, was also taken from his possession before later being returned.
Footage later emerged of McGregor driving his car while the police followed behind having switched on their siren. And in a now-deleted tweet, McGregor said: "That is the auxiliary lane on Dublin’s M50. I was preparing to take the exit that takes me to my gym."
McGregor's tweet echoes a statement from a spokesperson for the fighter, who said: “Mr. McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by Gardai for alleged road traffic violations. He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station."
The Notorious is currently training for his return to the octagon, but will now have to face a court date at the Blanchardstown district court next month. A conviction could see McGregor imprisoned for six months and fined as much as €5,000 if hit with the maximum punishment.
A Garda spokesperson explained in a statement that a man had been arrested for a driving incident on Tuesday, saying: "Gardaí arrested a man aged in his 30s in relation to an incident of dangerous driving in the Palmerstown area yesterday evening, Tuesday, March 22 2022.
"The man was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he was later charged. He has been released pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date."
McGregor had taken to Instagram just hours after the incident, posting a picture of a mug of tea and a muffin with the caption "Tea always helps... Muffins too," alongside a laughing emoji.
He is expected to fight again later this year after returning from a broken leg that he suffered in his last outing over the summer.
He was beaten by Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight after picking up the gruesome injury, and is now looking to return at welterweight to face champion Kamaru Usman.
