Conor McGregor admits regret at hitting out at Tony Ferguson following KO defeat

Conor McGregor has admitted he is "upset" at his behaviour after hitting out at Tony Ferguson following his KO defeat by Michael Chandler.

McGregor provided a running social media commentary of UFC 274 which included the lightweight clash between Ferguson and Chandler. The 38-year-old was brutally KO'd by a front kick which McGregor promptly mocked by comparing his face to a chicken nugget.

However he has now issued an apology while appearing to blame new Twitter owner Elon Musk, tweeting: "I’m upset I went at Tony like that. Out straight. Wtf team, this is not a nice app nor does it encourage nice behaviour toward each other. 43 billion, man pull that and say 'sike' who give a f***, really. No one. Dip to a dip on the ship. The carry the toys ship. Leave a beast a beast."

McGregor has a long history of criticising others on social media including the likes of octagon rivals Khabib Nurmagomedov, Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier. Ferguson opted to hit back at McGregor's brutal chicken nugget comparison, responding: "Ahhh There’s my b****. Next time tag me p****. Coming after you & your crew.

"McNugget stays with you fake, can’t take what not you are anymore you thief. Still got no sauce & no balls McNuggets. I’ll see you and your crew soon coming after your gold leprechaun."

McGregor and Ferguson were both previously represented by management label Paradigm Sports but Ferguson has since moved on. McGregor told the lightweight star to "look in the mirror" before his defeat by Chandler after Ferguson appeared to blame UFC president Dana White for his recent losing streak.

Ferguson continued to hit back at McGregor days after his defeat, branding his new rival "mentally weak". He later accused McGregor of copying other fighters due to his unhappiness and is planning to settle their new feud in the octagon.

'El Cucuy' said on The MMA Hour : "I would love to fight Conor if he still has his academy by my spot because that's what he ended up doing. He ended up opening up an academy right near me. My neighbours come up to me and they're like, 'Hey, do you know that Conor is right next to you?'

"I cracked up because that's how he is. The dude is so unhappy that he has to copy everybody's stuff to find happiness and maybe he's doing it on purpose. Maybe it's because he admires me and what I do. Regardless of what is, he would even ride my bike trail that I used for my run. That management used to know a lot about me, it was because I trusted them. So Conor can say what he wants to say, he's just really unhappy with himself."
