Conor Gallagher transfer: Liverpool 'like' midfielder Kenny Dalglish has already given his approval to

Liverpool have not been expected to make any serious moves on transfer deadline day, but that does not necessarily mean that they are not working on possibilities in the background.

The Reds have already demonstrated their appetite for a stealth deal by unexpectedly swooping for PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo before the January transfer window even opened, confirming his arrival at the turn of the year.

Since then, manager Jurgen Klopp has been pretty consistent in his approach to questions about further incomings this month and with only hours to go until the current transfer window closes for good, hopes of any further additions to his struggling squad have looked unlikely.

However, there are midfield options available and one player in particular who has come to the fore is Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. The 22-year-old enjoyed a superb season on loan with Crystal Palace in 2021-22, scoring eight goals in 40 appearances for the Eagles, before returning to Stamford Bridge.

But with a number of high profile incomings at Chelsea this month, the England international looks like he could be surplus to requirements, opening the door for a move elsewhere.

On Monday, Everton reportedly attempted to bring him to Goodison Park. But it would appear that Gallagher wasn't keen on the move, preferring to either join a club higher up the table with realistic European ambitions or stay and fight for his place at Chelsea.

However, this morning The Mail have included Gallagher in their list of potential Liverpool targets for transfer deadline day, claiming that the Reds 'like' the midfielder.

With Jurgen Klopp's side still looking dysfunctional in midfield and their Champions League qualification hopes already hanging by a thread, could a surprise late swoop for Gallagher be Liverpool's transfer deadline day story?

There is still plenty of time to thrash out a deal and if presented with the opportunity to move to Anfield, it is hard to imagine that the exciting youngster would turn down the chance to work with Klopp and help revolutionise his midfield.

And one person who would be happy if the deal came off is Sir Kenny Dalglish. The Reds legend has previously spoke highly of Gallagher.

Writing in his Sunday Post column, Dalglish said: “Conor has had four loan moves while on Chelsea’s books but it was in the past two years that he really came to the fore. “In 2020-21, he was bright and bubbly at West Brom. Then last season at Crystal Palace he really lit the place up. He was brilliant for Patrick Vieira’s team as they finished a creditable 12th in the Premier League.

“Conor is 22 and now plays for England. He has been very patient. His progress has been steady and he now looks the part of a Chelsea first-team player.”
