Connor Goldson reveals Rangers injury sympathy as defender recalls exchange with teammate that made him say 'can't complain'

Connor Goldson admits it was a reality check moment when he got injured against Liverpool and spoke with John Souttar.

The key Rangers defender had played almost every game over the course of his Ibrox spell under Steven Gerrard and Gio Van Bronckhorst before suffering a big blow against Liverpool in the Champions League thrashing in October. It meant the Light Blues were without a huge character in the dressing room until Goldson was able to return against Aberdeen this week.

And the defender has been lifting the lid on his time spent on the sidelines, revealing that Ibrox teammate John Souttar was the first to console him on his knock. The former Hearts man has been plagued by long-term injuries, shown by the fact that he has only managed one appearance for Rangers before being ruled out for months with a fresh knock. Souttar was expected to be available after the World Cup break but there is no word on his current status.

And Goldson admits exchanging with his partner was an eye-opening moment. When asked if he was overdue for a spell out of the Rangers team, he told Sky Sports: "Yeah, we actually said that. When I came off in the Liverpool game I took it really hard. I was quite emotional when I walked in (to training), just because I felt I was getting to the best form of the season in that little period and the few weeks before it as well. But at the same time, when I walked in the first person to come up to me was John Souttar.

"I actually thought to myself that I've been so fortunate for four years that I can't complain. I have played most of the game in the past four years here, and he has been unfortunate with his time with injuries and this season with injuries. I thought to myself I can't complain."
