Rangers defender Connor Goldson admits Michael Beale’s side would not have pulled off their Pittodrie rescue act "in the last six or eight weeks."
The new Ibrox manager has kicked off his Gers reign with back-to-back 3-2 wins over Hibs and Aberdeen. But on both occasions they had to do it the hard way, fighting back from losing positions to claim the points.
It’s a far cry from the results the dropped points at St Johnstone and St Mirren Goldson hailed the spirit that has swept through the Rangers camp since Beale’s appointment after Scott Arfield's stunning stoppage-time brace left Jim Goodwin's Dons devastated. He said: “It wasn’t pretty but it’s three points. We said in there, in probably the last two games, in the last six or eight weeks, we probably wouldn't have won those games before.
“Hopefully now we can get a bit of confidence back as a whole group and start picking up three points more often. I’m like the fans, I like to watch (the team play) but it hasn't been nice, when we've conceded goals it's looked like we can't come back into games.
“The boys have tried their best but it hasn't happened. We haven't created chances. Whereas (at Pittodrie) we kept going and luckily got two chances and Scotty put them away. It's important to keep building on these wins. I don't think it's the best we've played and I don't think it's the best we will play.
"At the same time, over the season you have to pick up three points playing ugly sometimes and hopefully with those two victories now it can build confidence. We've had a home win and an away win against two of the better teams in the league. Hopefully we can go into Friday against Ross County and get another three points.”
The Dons showdown was Goldson’s first run-out since limping off agains Liverpool at the start of October. The Englishman was left blowing after playing the 90-minutes in the north east but was all smiles as he reflected on his comeback.
He said: "I’m happy. I was absolutely knackered afterwards. I’d only trained twice but I wanted to play. I knew that the first game would be hard. I just had to get it out the way and try to recover now. It's onto Friday now and I'm just really happy to be back.”
Gers now head to Dingwall where they’ll look to give Beale an early Christmas present by making it three wins on the bounce. Goldson told RangersTV: "Lovely – three days! Listen it would have been a lot worse if we hadn’t won Tuesday’s game – we have, the changing room is a happy place.
"We’ll be back in and I’m sure the manager will want to analyse things and how we can improve – which we need to. But at the same time we have got three points and it makes for a happy changing room."
