Connexin takes on new city HQ as acquisitions and growth accommodated

Hull-based tech specialist Connexin has opened its new city headquarters, with the expansion uniting teams following a period of ‘landmark growth and investment’.

K3 Business Park on Clough Road is the new home for the Internet of Things and smart city provider, with a move from Henry Boot Way required after operations doubled throughout 2022. Business wins and acquisitions following significant backing of the firm have seen the workforce swell significantly to more than 150 people, with Pure Broadband and Wisper among the deals.

The former NPower call centre and wider site was acquired by Beverley-based property company Tradepark Ltd, the developer behind K2 Bond Street, almost two years ago.

Connexin has taken an 8,500 sq ft floor featuring a suite of units, investing more than £500,000 to become an anchor tenant, building on the location of one of its engineering depots.

Alex Yeung, co-founder and deputy chief executive said: “Over the years, we have had many opportunities to move further afield into cities people feel are the ‘digital hubs’ of the UK, but Hull is our home. It’s where we started and where we will stay and continue to invest.

“Having our headquarters rooted firmly in Hull signals our commitment to continue boosting the local economy and ensures Hull remains proudly on the map as a city for technology companies to thrive and collaborate.”

Tender wins in IoT and Smart Places, to expansion of the Connexin Fibre network and development of the Connexin Academy – which has now provided over 100 training courses and introduced many of its training participants into full time employment - are all part of the reasoning.

IoT and Smart Places have led to significant increases in revenue, following a number of successful customer partnerships including the Yorkshire Water advanced meter infrastructure framework contract that was awarded earlier this year.

Connexin has also bolstered broadband customer numbers as the company continues to build Full Fibre across Hull and various locations in the North.

Furqan Alamgir, co-founder and chief executive, added: “I am immensely proud of what the Connexin team has achieved over the past few years and the pace that we are continuing to grow as a business. Most importantly, I’m proud of our continued work and commitment to supporting our local community.

“We’ve been able to raise thousands through our Connexin Cares scheme for charities that have a real effect on people’s lives. We’ve broken the region’s broadband monopoly, with an innovative 10Gbps capable network, bringing long sought-after competition to the market – and of course, with all of this meaning lower prices for residents.

“Across all of our teams, we have demonstrated our role as an innovative technology provider pioneering the leading solutions to revolutionise our towns and cities. We are very excited to continue the momentum to deliver bigger and better things for our customers every single day.”

Tradepark owner Mark Butters said: “I am pleased that Connexin has moved in, is investing in Hull and creating jobs.”
