GUWAHATI: The Congress on Tuesday launched a mass signature campaign and protest in four districts of Assam which have been remerged with the four districts from which they were carved out. Congress MLAs and MPs from Assam air dashed to New Delhi to chalk out a strategy against the delimitation exercise in a close-door meeting with representatives of the high command at the Constitution Club on Tuesday evening.
Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah alleged that citing delimitation, the state government has decided to change the boundaries of 14 districts of Assam by changing the jurisdiction of numerous villages, towns and four districts. “People from the affected districts want the Congress to take up the issue strongly. No one wants a change in the boundaries of the districts. The intentions of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are doubtful,” he told the media after the meeting.
