CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK leader M K Stalin’s efforts to float All India Federation for Social Justice has got a shot in the arm with his allies, the Congress and Left parties, announcing that they would join the forum.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi has deputed party senior leader M Veerappa Moily to be the Congress representative in the federation. She handed over a letter in this regard to T R Baalu, leader of the DMK Parliamentary party, on Monday when he called on her to hand over Stalin’s invitation to the Congress leadership to be part of the movement.
Baalu also met Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi. Baalu also called on CPI general secretary D Raja and CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury to hand over Stalin’s invitation to them. Both responded positively to join the federation, said a DMK statement.
Congratulating the efforts of TN chief minister, D Raja, in a letter, said he and his party would be part of the forum, set up to protect the rights of marginalised sections of society. He said he would meet Stalin in person to discuss the details, said the DMK statement. Sitaram Yechury lauded Stalin for taking up the cause of social justice at the national level.
