Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge bypasses Independence Day event at Red Fort, says democracy under threat

NEW DELHI: Congress president and leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday absented himself from the Independence Day function at the Red Fort. He hoisted the national flag at the party headquarters in the national capital where he attacked the Modi government alleging that democracy and the Constitution are under threat.

With Kharge skipping the main national event at the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, his chair remained empty during the 77th Independence Day celebrations.
