The Ebola outbreak centered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 9,000 confirmed cases and 4,339 confirmed deaths across four countries, according to the CDC situation summary, updated Oct. 13 with data through Oct. 10. Congo accounts for 8,978 of those cases and 4,336 of the deaths, and containment efforts there are faltering, the Associated Press reported.
For U.S. households, the CDC's message has not changed. "The overall risk to the American public and travelers remains low," the agency said, and no U.S. cases linked to this outbreak have been reported.
