Confusion as emergency alert happens on some phones - but not others with one network particularly affected

Mobile phone owners have been left confused as the emergency alert - which was scheduled to hit the nation's devices at 3pm - sounds on some phones but not others.

The government was trailing a new emergency alert system, supposed to be going out to all mobile phones across the UK. The new national alert system will be used to warn people about dangerous situations, such as floods or during terror attacks, was tested out nationwide on all mobile phones that are compatible with 4G and 5G.

But many people took to social media to voice their concerns that some phones in their homes sounded, while others did not. Many customers of the mobile network Three have particularly complained of not getting an alarm, with hundreds of social media users sharing their lack of emergency notification.

Multiple phones owned by Manchester Evening News reporters on the Three network did not sound. Paul Gallagher told the M.E.N.: "I got the alert on Vodafone, my son sat next to me on Three didn’t."

Twitter user Rob Freeman said he did not get the alert on Three, while Harry Askham replied: "Also on Three, no alarm. Guess that's it. Amateur hour!"

"I’m just a Three customer, standing in front of my phone, asking it to emergency alert me," tweeted Emily Barwise. While user @petalsforrachel added: "Anyone else on an iPhone not had the alert??? My pal with a Samsung got hers but the Three iPhones here have nothing."

Three customers are now starting to message the brand personally, providing screenshots that they have their alerts enabled which would have allowed them to get the notification.

Three has not yet responded to the public tweets.
