Confusion as diners set up table on the side of Portway

Now that the weather is getting nicer, the temptation is to get as much fresh air as possible. And when the sun is shining and the day is warm, its always nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy a picnic.

But in Bristol, some people seem to have decided to eat in a rather unusual location. Drivers along the Portway were baffled today (April 22) when they drove past a group sat around a fully laid dining table on a layby.

A witness told Bristol Live that he saw the group at about 2:41pm. They were sat along the road with a table, chairs, candles, a wicker basket - and even a lamp.

As entertained motorists drove past some honked their horns and the diners turned to wave to them.

In a picture, the group can be seen sitting next to a large grey SUV. The Portway route is one of the most scenic in the city, running along the Avon Gorge with views of the river stretching into Bristol.
