Confident Tushar Khandker takes over as women's junior hockey team coach

BENGALURU: Normality finally returned to the coaching set-up of the National junior women’s hockey team with the appointment of former India skipper Tushar Khandker as the coach of the team. The position has been a sort of musical chair over the past few months, following the abrupt departure of chief coach Erik Wonink.

With barely five months for the Women’s FIH Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile, Khandker will have his task cut out, especially the expectations from the team having risen following their maiden title triumph in the Asia Cup earlier this month. But the 38-year-old is no stranger to coaching national teams. He is among the few former internationals who have been in the Hockey India coaching pool for a sustained period, having started with the senior men’s team in 2014.
