HYDERABAD: Another patient - of the four from Vaddera basti shifted to ICU for dialysis - is said to be critical at a private hospital in Parvath Nagar. Officials said all the four patients are in ICU and are aged above 70 years, out of them one was already stated to be critical on Wednesday. Sources said the second patient, 73-years-old, is witnessing a rapid decline in kidney functioning.
While 60% of patients have already been discharged, officials say others are showing improvement. A doctor under the condition of anonymity acknowledged that the probable cause is associated with drinking water.
Speaking to TOI, the district medical and health officer of Ranga Reddy, Dr Swarajya Laxmi maintained that there has been a 99% improvement in the situation at the basti. "The patients in the ICU have an acute kidney disorder," Laxmi said adding that the cause of the outbreak is yet to be determined.
"We had indicated that water could be the major issue, but then the IPM report - it stated that the quality of water was good - sprung a surprise. We are looking at other common patterns in the patients' eating and drinking habits," a doctor at Gandhi Hospital said.
Meanwhile, healthcare workers say that there have not been any new cases of diarrhoea in the last two days.
