Conde Nast Traveller names top Airbnbs in Edinburgh ahead of summer

Ten Airbnbs in Edinburgh have been named the best in the city by Condé Nast Traveller.

Scotland's capital has an abundance of hotels and short stay lets to offer tourists and the travel experts have highlighted their top ten airbnbs ahead of summer.

From medieval cottages in the suburbs to fun and modern apartments in the city centre, there will be something for everyone

Getting the top spot is a city centre loft located on the Royal Mile. From prices starting at £90 a night, it sleeps two and overlooks the cobbled street.

Complete with its traditional features, old paintings and bookshelves, the travel experts add: "Cleverly designed, the box bed is hidden behind oak-panelled walls, while airy living spaces are filled with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight onto the hillside high street. Curl up on cosy sofas in the reading room, where a giant fireplace is framed by family portraits and heirloom-filled bookshelves, or test out the kitchen with its long wooden dining table."

In the New Town, George Street is known for its plush bars and clothing stores. If you want to be right in the centre of it, Eden Locke offers a collection of pastel-hued studio apartments available to book individually on Airbnb.

In third is a unique cottage, named as a medieval retreat by Condé Nast. The 16th century cottage in Bruntsfield was formerly home to nesting doves before it was renovated into a cosy fairytale retreat.

Condé Nast writes: "Downstairs, rough walls house a wood-burning stove, pull-out sofa bed and cedarwood kitchen, while upstairs in the tower lies a tiny, low-lit mezzanine with a bed surrounded by cubby holes and views of the garden."

The cosy getaway looks out on Edinburgh Castle (Airbnb)

Another stay that is bound to be popular with tourists is the city centre apartment that overlooks Edinburgh Castle. Nestled in the Old Town, the apartment is in a historic listed building near the iconic landmark.

Guests who are wanting to be right in the middle of Edinburgh would have everything from £189 a night they need as views of the castle can be seen right through the window.

With cosy furniture, the apartment has retained some its historic features, including an exposed stone wall in the living room.

Condé Nast adds: "Sitting in the shadows of the epic fortress, this apartment is perfectly placed between the castle and the colourful buildings of Grassmarket."
