A councillor has claimed a Selston street had the "worst road repair ever" following work carried out by Nottinghamshire County Council. Councillor David Martin, who represents Selston on the county council for Ashfield Independents, branded the work "pathetic".
Cllr Martin and residents of Mansfield Road asked for the street to be 'patch repaired'. He said Nottinghamshire County Council used Viafix to repair dozens of potholes all within a few metres of each other on the road outside houses 100 to 106 - and he claimed the end results were not good enough.
But the county council has hit back - accusing Cllr Martin of making "cheap attacks". The authority added that the "emergency repairs are the first part of an ongoing process" and that "more extensive repairs" to roads are scheduled to take place later in the year.

Cllr Martin said: "How anyone can find this pathetic job acceptable is beyond me. It is an embarrassment. The Conservatives at County Hall claim that residents are telling them they can see an improvement in the roads.
"I'd invite them to come to Mansfield Road, Selston, see for themselves this c**p job and commit to putting it right. It's a tough competition for the worst road repair from the Tories but this just about pips it.
"This is the worst road repair I've ever seen. The process of fixing our highways is as broken as our roads and pavements."
He added: "Residents are quite right up in arms. This is yet another disgraceful waste of money. I thought nothing would surprise me with this county council but this latest botched job beggars belief."
As previously reported, Nottinghamshire County Council commissioned a cross-party review of highways in the summer of 2021 to look at the way in which roads were repaired. The authority said it aimed to move towards a "right-first time approach" where roads were resurfaced instead of potholes being temporarily filled.

The Conservative-led authority said at the end of last year that the use of Viafix to temporarily fill potholes had decreased by 61%, with the number of pothole complaints also falling. In response to Cllr Martin's claims, Cllr Neil Clarke, cabinet member for transport and environment at the county council, said: "Cllr David Martin was one of the Highways Review Panel members who voted unanimously for our new approach to road repairs. He knows better than anyone the size of the challenge we face due to the road maintenance backlog we inherited, exacerbated by current cold and wet weather conditions which cause further damage to our roads.
"Our repair team visited Mansfield Road in Selston to make urgent initial repairs to fill the potholes to ensure that the road remains safe for road users. We then plan to undertake further, large-scale resurfacing works on that road this summer."
He added: "Our road repair teams face a tough enough task at this time of year without the likes of Cllr Martin making cheap attacks on their work simply to get his name and picture in the media before a district election. He and some of his colleagues would serve their residents better by explaining to them that these emergency repairs are the first part of an ongoing process, which they supported, to make more extensive repairs to their roads, which will take time to complete. We thank residents in Selston for their patience and we will get on with this work in due course."
