Popular south Liverpool street Lark Lane has been described as "rowdy and unsafe" by some local people who are opposing plans for a new bar and restaurant in the area.
An application for a new premises licence has been submitted to Liverpool City Council. The application concerns a unit at 77 Lark Lane which currently houses the Planet Vegan diner.
The plans come from a company called Six Two Five (NW) Ltd and designated premises supervisor Andrew Peters. The planned premises is described in the application as a bar and restaurant that would open between 10am and midnight from Monday to Sunday.

A number of local residents have registered their concerns about plans for another establishment selling alcohol in Lark Lane. Several made wider comments about their issues with the popular destination street.
One said: "Lark Lane's commercial business is saturated with bars/restaurants. Over 90% of the businesses on the street are bars and restaurants and there is insufficient facilities or services to the area to accommodate any further licences. This is unsustainable in a residential area which is not classed as Night Time Economy by Merseyside Police and is consequently not policed on weekends or evenings.
"I have personally experienced a significant number of incidents recently on Lark Lane which include violence, drug taking and selling and public urination against people's houses alongside other antisocial issues like littering by customers and dumping by businesses which has increased the number of rats. The most serious incident was attending a 17 year old who was ejected from a bar, having seizures through ketamine/alcohol use. The licenced door staff and the owner of the business saw the child and did not assist him."
Another local resident added: "Lark Lane has become more and more like the city centre. It’s rowdy and unsafe late at night. Having even more people drinking until late will add even more antisocial behaviour to our residential area.
"We oppose this application because more alcohol being consumed will result in more public nuisance incidents. Local residents are absolutely fed up with Lark Lane being allowed more and more licenses and thus becoming a drinking den resulting in more crime, disorder and public nuisance. "
Another local said they would like to see some more conditions attached to the latest bar application. They added: "I would ask that the condition of drinks only be served along with a meal (is added). I also think the opening hours are a bit late and would prefer the sale of late-night refreshments to be ended at 11. This will prevent the premises becoming a public nuisance. A lot of places in the Lane do this anyway."
The application will be heard at a meeting of the council's licensing committee on Wednesday January 18.
