A man was taken to hospital and a police cordon set up in Nottingham city centre following a serious assault during the early hours of Saturday, May 21. Officers were called to Lower Parliament Street shortly after 3.30am to reports a man had been found injured with 'potentially life-altering injuries'.
Witnesses reported seeing a huge cordon in Lower Parliament Street on Saturday morning, stretching from Poundland and the Old Dog and Partridge pub, down Clinton Street East to Wilko. The incident caused concern among passersby.
Phil Sanders, 62, was told he could not park his watch repairs van on Clinton Street East because of what happened. He added: "When I came here this morning it was all cordoned off - that was at around 8.20am. They didn’t want to tell me what it was, they just said it was a serious incident.
"I’ve been parking in that street for the past 30 years. It has been cordoned off before actually. It’s a regular occurrence nowadays, especially in the city centre. You see it all the time."

Ian Pawnall, aged 57, who lives nearby in the city centre, said: "It happens around here all the time - it happened really close to here three or four weeks ago. I got hit over the back of the head and was pretty badly hurt. I haven’t gone out drinking since then, since that happened. I wasn’t surprised when I saw the tape here this morning. A lot of the problems are usually around this area I think."
Meanwhile, Mia Aldridge, 26, who was waiting for her bus in the city centre, added: "It’s always pretty worrying when you see something like this." Another man, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It probably happened last night, I think that’s when you get most of the problems in the city centre. Whatever it is, hopefully no-one is seriously hurt."
