‘Complete works under KKRDB grants before December’

Chairman of Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) Dattatreya Patil Revoor told officers and contractors concerned to complete all works approved for 2022-23 before the end of December 2022.

Chairing a meeting at the KKRDB headquarters here on Tuesday to review the progress of works, Mr. Patil said that the Government has allocated ₹3,000 crore to the board and asked the officers concerned to get approval for the works before the end of April and complete them before the end of December.

“Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has allocated special grants of ₹3,000 crore to KKRDB. Now, it is our responsibility to utilise the amount for the overall development of the region by completing the works within the stipulated time. Officers concerned should consult their respective Deputy Commissioners and legislators and get approval for the intended works before the end of April so that the works can be completed as early as possible,” Mr. Revoor said.

Taking serious exception to the fact that the works that were supposed to be completed in 2016-17 remained incomplete in Kalaburagi district, Mr. Ravoor asked why the implementation of the works is getting delayed in the district.

“Other districts in the region showed better performance in terms of completing the works within the stipulated time. But, Kalaburagi is lagging behind. Unnecessary delay in the implementation of works and lethargy of officials cannot be tolerated,” Mr. Revoor said and asked officers who were not interested in discharging their duties to quit so that others can take their place to continue the works and complete them.

Annoyed over the absence of some officers in the meeting, Mr. Revoor directed the officers concerned to issue show-cause notices to all those who were absent for the meeting.

Secretary of the board Venkatesh Kumar also directed the officers to get approval for the works before the end of April and commence them in May.

“If there are any modifications to be made to any of the works approved, get it done before April 30. The works for the current financial year must commence in May and they should be completed before the end of the financial year,” he said.

He also directed the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts in the region to review the progress of works taken up under the special grants every Monday and submit a report to the board.

Taking note of the pending works taken up by Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) and Nirmiti Kendra, Mr. Kumar expressed dissatisfaction for the inordinate delay in the completion of works.

“These two government agencies that are exempted from the tender process have failed to live up to the expectations. Now on, a legal procedure will be adopted to ensure that these two agencies, just like the other private ones, will complete the works within stipulated time,” Mr. Kumar said.

Mr. Kumar also made it clear that the KKRDB will review the progress of works in each district on a monthly basis to see that the implementation is on track as expected.

Deputy Commissioner Yeshwanth Gurukar and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dileesh Sasi were present in the meeting.
