Steve Nicol has praised Brenden Aaronson following his man of the match display in Leeds United's 2-1 win over Wolves at Elland Road. Aaronson impressed on his Whites debut, although he was cruelly denied his first goal for the club.
It looked as though the American prodded home Patrick Bamford's low cross, but the final touch for the winning goal came off Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri. However, even without a goal to his name, Aaronson was a star performer in the victory, with former Liverpool and Sheffield Wednesday defender Nicol praising his work-rate and decision-making.
“I think the most impressive thing about Aaronson was that he was all over the park, and he was closing the ball, and he was winning it and he was giving it,” Nicol said on ESPN.
“We know that he can do all that stuff. I think the best part of his game was the way he delivered these passes and the decision-making, not just with the ball at his feet, but again, choosing when to go and close down, and choosing when to stay off.

“You're talking about almost a complete performance, because obviously scoring would have been the cherry on the top.
“The fact is that he’s now showing everybody at Premier League level that he’s capable of showing himself to be the most important player on the field against a Wolves side, who are packed, by the way, with internationals, with experience.
“What he has to do now is follow up and do it consistently. And of course, it's a big statement as well because we know how much (Jesse) Marsch wanted him in the side, that he wanted to bring him over.
“And people look at a guy with just the American connection, Tyler Adams obviously coming across as well, but that sort of performance reinforces the fact that the manager’s decision was the correct one."
