Thousands of workers across the UK will begin trialling a four-day working week from today (June 6). For six months 70 companies will participate in the pilot, which organisers claim is the biggest to take place anywhere in the world, with more than 3,000 workers involved.
During the pilot workers will receive 100per cent of their pay for 80per cent of their time, on the basis that they will still perform at 100per cent productivity. The firms taking part in the trial cover a range of products and services, including banking, care, animation studios, and housing.
The pilot is being run by 4 Day Week Global in partnership with think tank Autonomy, the 4 Day Week UK Campaign, and researchers at Cambridge University, Oxford University and Boston College. Researchers will work with each participating organisation to measure the impact on productivity and the wellbeing of its workers, as well as the impact on the environment and gender equality.
