Everyone knows Terry McLaurin has played with many quarterbacks since entering the NFL in 2019. Even before McLaurin, the Washington Commanders seemingly had a new starting quarterback every season after Kirk Cousins departed.
McLaurin will have yet another quarterback in 2024: Rookie Jayden Daniels. The new-look Commanders hope Daniels will be the guy throwing to McLaurin for years to come. The early signs are certainly promising.
Even playing for multiple offensive coordinators and catching passes from 10 quarterbacks, McLaurin has gone over 1,000 yards in each of the past four seasons. He missed the mark by 81 yards in his rookie season.
What can we expect from McLaurin in 2024 with Daniels and new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury?
Garrett Podell named 10 NFL players in a perfect situation to thrive in 2024 and included McLaurin on this list.
Reasons for thriving: Playing with an explosive QB in 2024 No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels.
Terry McLaurin is an underrated wide receiver: He is one of six players with 900 or more receiving yards in each of his five seasons, joining Mike Evans, A.J. Green, Randy Moss, and Jerry Rice. The crazy part about that stat is the best quarterback McLaurin has played with is probably Alex Smith.
That all changes in 2024 with second overall pick quarterback Jayden Daniels. Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, shattered records as an LSU tiger, like the single-season passer efficiency mark (208.0), and he led the country in total yards (412.2) and total touchdowns per game (4.2). He also became the first player to lead college football in passing yards per attempt (11.7) and yards per carry (8.4) in the past 60 years.
Pairing an explosive quarterback in Daniels with a playmaker like McLaurin could lead to the best years of the 28-year-old’s career.
That last statement is what Washington is counting on in 2024. Last week, the Commanders traded 2022 first-round pick Jahan Dotson, leaving more questions about which player would start opposite McLaurin.
Even without a clear-cut No. 2 receiver, McLaurin is poised for his best NFL season yet in 2024.
