The Washington Commanders were tied with the San Francisco 49ers 7-7 at halftime of Saturday’s NFC showdown. The Commanders controlled the football in the first half and, if not for two blown opportunities, would have gone into halftime with the lead.
It wasn’t meant to be, as the 49ers came out in the second half and scored the first 14 points. Two Washington turnovers led to two more scoring drives for the Niners, who outscored the Commanders 30-13 in the final 30 minutes.
The Commanders had success in the passing game against San Francisco, but quarterback Taylor Heinicke was benched in the fourth quarter and replaced by Carson Wentz. Before back-to-back turnovers, Heinicke had been playing well.
