The Washington Commanders were back on the practice field Wednesday, one day after finalizing their initial 53-man roster. While the Commanders appear healthy less than two weeks before a Week 1 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars, there was a noticeable absence Wednesday.
Third-year safety Kam Curl was spotted wearing a sling on his right arm during practice. Curl is one of Washington’s top young defensive players, and this appears to be a recent injury.
After practice, head coach Ron Rivera opened his press conference with a question concerning Curl and gave a direct answer.
“No, we don’t have to give you the injury report until next Wednesday, so we’ll stay away from all that,” Rivera said.
He’s right. Regardless of whether the injury is serious or not, why tip off your Week 1 opponent?
Curl is an integral part of Washington’s defense. If he’s unable to go in Week 1, second-year safety Darrick Forrest would make his first NFL start. Forrest had an outstanding summer for the Commanders.
For now, we’ll assume that Curl will be ready for Week 1 unless told otherwise.
