The Commanders just drove 30 yards in eight plays, and Joey Slye came through hugely with a long 58-yard field goal to give Washington a 20-14 lead over Philadelphia.
Taylor Heinicke has not been flawless, but he has been at times very efficient, completing 12 of 121 for 145 yards. No doubt the plan was to get the ball to Terry McLaurin more often, and it has been productive thus far. McLaurin has six first-half receptions for 76 yards with a long of 26 yards in his eight targets.
Brian Robinson Jr. has already carried the ball 16 times for 60 yards. The Commanders have thus far doubled the Eagles in first downs 18 to 9, and have earned 9 of their first downs rushing the ball.
The Commanders have been splendid thus far on third downs, converting 9 of 12 and 1-1 on fourth down. They’ve out-gained the Eagles 235-101 and have controlled the ball for 23:49 of the first half, leaving the Eagles with only 6:11 time of possession.
Can the Commanders play another half as well as the first? They may need to if they are going to knock off the undefeated Eagles at home.
