Commanders lead Giants 21-7 at halftime

The Washington Commanders (6-2) lead the New York Giants (2-6) 21-7 at halftime of their Week 9 matchup from MetLife Stadium.

New York went on offense first, but the Commanders quickly forced a three-and-out. The Commanders returned the favor, as Tress Way had his first punt against the Giants this season.

From there, the Giants leaned on the running game, and Washington had no answer. Fortunately for the Commanders, edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. sacked quarterback Daniel Jones, forcing a fumble that linebacker Bobby Wagner hustled down the field to recover.

A few plays later, Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels found Terry McLaurin for a short touchdown pass.

The Giants kept things on the ground, pummeling the Commanders on a 16-play, 73-yard drive that took up almost 10 minutes to tie the game.

After another defensive stop, the Commanders turned to running back Austin Ekeler for two big plays and he capped off the drive with a short touchdown run.

Just before halftime, Daniels quickly led the Commanders down the field and, with under 10 seconds remaining, found McLaurin again for an 18-yard touchdown. Washington had one last play before kicking a field goal, and Daniels went to the end zone. The play was set up by Daniels’ completion of Dyami Brown on the play before for a huge gain on third-and-long.

Daniels completed nine of 11 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns in the first half. He also rushed for 21 yards. Ekeler paced Washington with 40 rushing yards, while Noah Brown caught three passes for 50 yards. Both of McLaurin’s receptions were for touchdowns.

The Commanders begin the second half with the football.
