Commanders Jahan Dotson compares Bieniemy to his own dad

Jahan Dotson is enjoying the pace of this year, better than last year.

The Commanders wide receiver told the media Wednesday that his rookie year included other things like preparing for the NFL combine, the Pro Days, the Draft, in addition to then all of the mini-camps and OTAs with the Commanders.

This year he appreciates all of those other activities/time consumers of his rookie season are now a thing of the past. He is glad to be able to focus on learning the new Commanders’ offense.

As for the Commanders new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy bringing a new offense to the Commanders?

“Yes, every offense has a bunch of plays, a bunch of formations, different verbiage, different language,” Dotson said. “I would say they are all complex in their own way. It’s just a matter of you putting in the work to learn it and become comfortable with it.”

When asked about Bieniemy’s urgency in holding the offensive unit accountable? Well, it is interesting that defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio at last week’s OTAs on his own, volunteered that he thought Bieniemy was bringing more accountability to the offensive unit.

Dotson responded:

“Yes, honestly, it’s awesome to have someone who holds you to such a high standard. He only wants success out of you. He wants to see you succeed at all times. I ran into him yesterday after meetings, and he said, ‘You have so much potential, and I’m going to make sure I get it out of you’. That is what you want in someone. I feel like that is how my dad was with me at a young age. He saw the potential in me and made sure I worked to get where I want to be in life.”

“I see the same things in EB (Bieniemy). So you really got to cherish people like that in your life. I am super thankful to have him as a coordinator.”
