We knew Saturday that Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz fractured the ring finger on his throwing [right] hand in last week’s 12-7 win over the Chicago Bears. It was speculated that Wentz could miss up to six weeks.
On Monday, Wentz traveled to Los Angeles, and the injury was confirmed by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo of the NFL Network.
Now, we’ve finally gotten word from the team. The Commanders, who were off Monday, released the following statement confirming Wentz’s injury.

We likely will not hear from head coach Ron Rivera until after practice on Wednesday. At that time, backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke will also likely speak to the media as the starting quarterback generally addresses the media on Wednesday.
Last week was a tumultuous one for Rivera. It began with him answering “quarterback” when asked why Washington was behind the other three NFC East teams. Rivera followed up with context to his answer, but some received it poorly. Rivera did apologize to Wentz and the team for causing a distraction.
Then, on Thursday [gameday], there was the ESPN report regarding owner Daniel Snyder which was mostly focused on the owner but did include one nugget saying it was Snyder who pushed for Wentz — which Rivera vehemently denied.
The Commanders play the Green Bay Packers Sunday with Heinicke under center.
