Comic Relief viewers puzzled as show faces tech blunder just minutes in

Comic Relief viewers were left confused as a technical blunder happened just minutes into the show tonight.

Lenny Henry, Alesha Dixon and Paddy McGuiness are hosting the charity show, which raises money for those in poverty all across the world, but as they tried to make a crossover to a special edition of Mind Mangler - inspired by The Play That Goes Wrong, a different clip was played, leaving everyone watching at home very puzzled.

Viewers at home were surprised to see a man standing on stage, initially thinking it was part of the act, before the feed cut back to the live show where Alesha and Paddy were standing on the main stage.

"20 minutes in and we already have a technical difficulties. We love it. #comicrelief," one viewer wrote online.

A second shared: " #comicrelief That certainly mangled my mind," whilst a third wrote: "What happened there?! #comicrelief."

However, others questioned why Alesha thought it had already finished - as when they returned, she read straight from the autocue and thanked the team behind the Mind Mangler segment.

"Alesha really thought the Magic Goes Wrong sketch only lasted 10 seconds..? #ComicRelief," one fan penned online.

Others thought that it might have been part of the show, giving that it was inspired by The Play That Goes Wrong.

"Is it wrong that I genuinely can't tell if that Mind Mangler bit was genuinely supposed to happen, or if it was an actual technical fault? #comicrelief," one confused viewer wrote on Twitter.

Lenny Henry is fronting Comic Relief, having set the charity up with Richard Curtis in 1985.

Writing for The Mirror about the importance of the charity's work, he said: "Times are truly difficult. Across the country, as we slowly emerge from the pandemic, thousands of people are struggling with rising living costs.

"Many are forced to choose between heating and eating. And this is taking its toll on our mental health as a nation."

He added: "In times of hardship, I have seen how community organisations plug the cracks in society when life gets tough. From donating and volunteering at food banks, to befriending older people who are cut off from society."

Later on, the Mind Mangler returned for the full scene that fans had been expecting earlier as Paddy addressed the blunder.

"Remember when we did live telly and it didn't go right? This time it's definitely going to go right," he told viewers.
